Problem Description:

Recently, we had received a Dell PowerEdge 2900 Server from a company.

The Dell PowerEdge 2900 is a Storage Area Network server (SAN) which designed to deliver exceptional performance in a tower chassis or a 5U rackable option with next generation Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors, Fully Buffered Dimm memory technology and Serial Attached SCSI hard drives. The entire server was built with RAID 5.

According to customer description that this server had been used for more than 7 years. There is a hard disk failure during last maintenance check. The IT support had shut down the entire server and pull out the failure hard disk, he had performed some check on the hard disk, nothing found in the end, so he put back the hard disk, and restart the server, but this time the entire raid was lost and cannot found. As they are using the server to store their operation data. So the customer anxious and want to recover it within 3 days.

Action to be taken:

Our Data Recovery Specialist had taken out all the hard disk, label with a number to avoid misplace the order of hard disk. Next he one by one plugs the hard disk to our recovery software, to check the hard disk condition. In the end, there are 2 of hard disk was found with bad sector, which affect the service area. So our data recovery specialist had to repair the firmware, and perform a clone for these two hard disk.

After clone is done. Our data recovery specialist plugs the 6 hard disks to the computer. And using our professional recovery software to calculate the parity delay, block order and block size.

After getting all the necessary information. Our data recovery specialist begins to rebuild entire raid.
