Recently we receive a Sandisk Ultra 64G MicroSD Card from one of the customer to seek our help to retrieve the important data. This SD card is being inserted to the DJI Drone for take the video of event. According to the customer say, he accidently overwrites everything inside the SD card, and now the customer wants to get back the previous video.

When our data recovery specialist received the SD card, first thing he checks is to find out the what kind of file system, after insert into the computer, he managed to find out the SD card is being format as FAT 32 which means only supports individual files up to 4GB in size and volumes up to 2TB in size. Next our data recovery specialist need to find out whether the FAT table 1 and 2 status, the purpose of FAT table is to store the length, disk partition ect. By knowing the FAT table, he can recover the data but after using our data recovery tool, he found out that FAT table also been clean up.  So now the problem our data recovery specialist faced is the root directory, field type and FAT Table information all has been clean up. Our data recovery specialist need to find another solution to recovery back the overwrites data.

Our data recovery specialist tries using our data recovery tool to see whether can recovery data back, but after using the tool, all the file type changed, as we can see the picture below, the recovery data should be in video file type but now all become the picture file type, also the picture only show the half of image. After found out this tool was not useful, our data recovery specialist discusses with other engineer to find out another solution.

This time, our data recovery specialist asks the customer to provide a sample of the video. We open the video using our data recovery tool, commonly the video file type store inside the SD Card contain the information of fty,mdat and moov which form a complete video file. So if we know the complete sample information of customer video, we can just write a script to recover all the data that has been overwrites.

Woo ! all the video can be found and recover back.

Customer was very glad and appreciated of our hard work, as those video are one of their client company anniversary event.
