Case description:

A customer contacted us to diagnose a Western Digital My Cloud. It is a Western Digital 3.5” hard drive – WD RED NAS WD30EFRX-68EUZN0. It stopped working in the past 2 years ago when connected the Western Digital My Cloud to his computer, there was an abnormal sound from the device, and the computer is unable to recognize and access the hard drive. He tried different computers and laptops, but it was all the same. Last week he tried to access it again, but it is still the same, computer unable to recognize and unable to access it. There are some photos and videos on the Western Digital My Cloud that he would like to retrieve.

Action (Solution):

EHDR’s data recovery specialist proceeds to diagnose the hard drive. The hard drive is detectable by the recovery tool but inaccessible. The health condition of the hard drive has dropped but it is still in a decent condition. The motor of the hard drive spins up successfully and the read/write heads of the drive are working as well. Although the drive was degraded, it is still in a working condition and not completely dead. The issue with the drive was because of file system was corrupted and it became inaccessible. Data recovery is still possible, and no parts swapping were required. After the confirmation with our clients, EHDR’s data recovery specialist proceeds with the recovery.

The Outcome

Data recovery was successful, and we transferred all the recovered data to a new hard drive for him as the old drive was degraded and not suggested to reuse anymore. He checked the data and was happy that all the data are recovered, and all the files are working well.
