QNAP TS-659 Pro Data Recovery

17 Nov 2022 – QNAP_

Initial Cause of Data Loss

A customer contacted us to recover data from their QNAP TS-659 PRO with 6x Seagate ST4000VN000 4TB 3.5” SATA hard disk. The QNAP failed a few weeks ago when they try to access the data but found that the computer couldn’t access it via the network mapping. He thought it is just a setting issue and tried to check and reset the settings again, but after confirming there is no issue with the setting.

Then, the user tried to access via QNAP login, and it is accessible, and the data were there, he tried to copy out the data and reset the QNAP again, some data can be copied but it failed to copy most of the data. He tried to copy file by file but was unsuccessful as well.

NAS Data Recovery

EHDR’s data recovery specialist proceeds to diagnose all the Seagate hard disks and confirmed that one of the hard disks has failed and stopped working while the others are degraded but physically still working. Overall condition of the hard disk is still good, no screeching or clicking sound from the faulty hard disk. Data recovery will be possible, after the confirmation, we proceed with the data recovery. All the drives were cloned, and all the recovery work was done on the cloned drive instead of the original patient drive, this is to avoid any unexpected issues during the recovery and the data will not be affected.

Data Recovery Outcome

The recovery is successful, and he checked the data and confirmed that all the work files and emails were recovered, and they are in working condition.

Suggestion

The recovery is successful, and he checked the data and confirmed that all the work files and emails were recovered, and they are in working condition.
