Case description:

A customer contacted us to recover data for her Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. The phone stopped working suddenly, and both screens totally blackout. She tried to charge the phone or pressed the power button but there was no response. The phone wasn’t dropped and there was no water splash or water damage, but just it stopped working. She tried to charge the phone for 1 to 2 hours and it is still the same, she can feel there’s a slight heat from the phone, which is normal while charging, it isn’t abnormal heat. She tried to check with the mobile shop, and they mentioned the motherboard is faulty and the data is irrecoverable. She has a lot of important data, photos, and videos on the phone that she would like to recover.

Action (Solution):

EHDR’s team dismantles the phone to verify the internal condition. There is no watermark found, our engineer tried to measure the current of the chip, and a short circuit was found on the motherboard. We wouldn’t know what happened to the phone or what causes this to happen, but based on our experience, the memory chips shouldn’t be affected, and data recovery will be possible if the crucial chips are not damaged. Chip-off recovery method was confirmed and the whole recovery process took around one week.

The Outcome

The data recovery was successfully done, and our recovery specialist manage to recover all the data from this phone. We contacted her for data checking, she was very satisfied because all the data were recovered. All recovered data were transferred to an external hard disk for her.
