Sandisk Ultra Flair 64gb thumb drive
No Sign of Connection?
Case description:
A customer contacted us to recover data from her Sandisk Ultra Flair 64gb thumb drive. The thumb drive stopped working since few days ago. While the drive connected to her laptop, it is undetectable. She tried to reconnect the thumb drive again, but it’s still the same. She tried on her colleague’s computer, unfortunately, it remained the same. She had been using this thumb drive for more than 2 years. All of her work’s and personal information and photos are saved in this thumb drive which she does not hold any backup. No symptom shows before this failure.
Action (Solution):
Our Singapore data recovery specialist proceeds with the diagnostic and found that the thumb drive was not accessible due to the degraded NAND Flash Chip. It is not cracked or bent, physically looking good. NAND Flash chip degraded due to subsequent read and write action on it. NAND flash chip will degrade over the time. This is completely normal, and it happens to all others storage devices which using NAND flash chip as the mean of storage. Fortunately, data recovery is still possible. EHDR data recovery specialist proceeds with chip-off the chips from the board upon receiving her service acknowledgement. The reading speed is very slow but we manage to access user sectors to salvage unaffected information and data.
The Outcome
Upon extraction done, we contacted our client to check all data. Based on her, the result of the recovery seems positive.
Suggestion
If you have a faulty thumb drive and require data recovery services, please feel free to contact us for a free assessment. Please do not try to tear down or trying to diagnose with free tools as it might damage the chips and lower chances of recovery.
