Case description:

A customer contacted us to recover data from his Micro SD card. The Micro SD card is about 4-year-old. He is using the Micro SD card in his Samsung phone as an external storage drive. The Micro SD card is still detectable and accessible by his phone or computer, but the photos on the Micro SD card were all corrupted. The Micro SD was slotted in his phone all the time and it is not damaged and it just happened suddenly when he tries to access the photo on his phone and realized the photo are all corrupted. The Micro SD card contains his children’s photo and he do not have any backup for all the photos on the Micro SD card.

Action (Solution):

EHDR’s data recovery specialist proceeds to assess this problem's Micro SD Card. It’s detectable but errors encountered in the data sectors. This is due to the poor flash chip condition causing the data on the Micro SD to be incomplete and errors. After the confirmation with the client, EHDR’s recovery specialist proceed with the monolithic data recovery for the Micro SD card. Monolithic data recovery requires to solder the wire to the pin out point on the SD card and perform a data dumping from the SD card since the data sectors of this SD card unable to access normally. After the data dumping, data decoding and fixing will be required for the data to be able to read.

The Outcome

Overall, the recovery rate is above 90% and most of the data are successfully recovered. He checked the data and happy that most of the data are recovered. Even though some of the images are still corrupted, but compared to the original condition of images of this Micro SD card, the result is much better.
