Problem Description:

Recently, we had received a Shintaro External Hard Disk 2.5-inch 40GB Portable Hard Disk from a customer.

This is an old portable hard disk as the capacity is only 40GB, this hard disk has been used for 7 years. Recently the hard disk was not detectable when she plugs into the computer. She had approached some of data recovery service in Singapore, but none of them was success, as this hard disk was quite old.

Action to be taken:

Ever Higher Data Recovery Specialist had more than 8 years of experience which can handle the different generation of hard disk. We told the customer not to plug the hard disk into the computer anymore, as it will make the hard disk condition worse. After we receive the portable hard disk, our data specialist does a check of external enclosure, make sure the previous data recovery center had not damaged anything.

Upon open the enclosure, our recovery specialist took the hard disk and plugs into the recovery tool, from the symptom we confirm Read/Write head was degraded, so sometimes it was not able to read the data on the platter. To solve the issue, we need to send the hard disk to our clean room, perform a one to one change of Read/Write head.

But we encounter a problem, we need the spare part, our data recovery specialist had searched all the market in Singapore but cannot find anything. We make our effort by search through oversea e-commercial, finally found it.

After replacement completed, our specialist performs a diagnostic test again, this time the hard disk was in good condition, we immediately clone the data out and told our customer not to use faulty hard disk anymore.

Outcome:

Finally, all the data are readable, we are happy that our customer can restore all her 7 years of data.
