Case description:

A customer engaged us to diagnose for their Toshiba 256GB M.2 Solid State drive (SSD). It is an internal SSD used in a laptop. Last week when he powers on his laptop and it’s unable to boot into the operating system, it stuck at the UEFI interface. He tried to check under UEFI and found that the laptop shows no drive detected. His Information Technology support tried to remove the SSD and connect to the laptop directly to verify this SSD. But it’s still the same, they also tried to use an SSD enclosure to access the SSD, but it is still undetectable. His work documents are all saved in it and he needs it urgently.

Action (Solution):

Singapore data recovery specialist proceeded with the checking and found that the SSD failed due to hardware issues. The NAND Flash Chip had degraded, which causes it inaccessible and undetectable, information were not readable and data sectors inaccessible. Overall, the condition of the SSD is bad, but the recovery is still possible if the crucial components were not damaged. After the confirmation, we proceed with the recovery, the memory chips were removed from the board for data recovery purposes.

The Outcome

It took us 2 weeks before we successfully recover the data from the SSD. Our client checked the data and mentioned that all the email and work files were recovered, and all the files are working and readable. He is happy with the recovery result.

Remember to monitor the health of your SSD. Sometime, when you saw your PC hanging or some missing files. These are signs of failure. Do back up your files before it is too late.
