Case description:

A customer came to EHDR with a Western Digital external hard disk drive for data recovery services. She was using the hard drive on her laptop but accidentally tripped the wire and dropped the hard drive to the floor. Then, she tried to reconnect the hard drive to her laptop again, but the hard drive became extremely slow when she accesses the files. Subsequently, not only inaccessible, but also abnormal sound encountered from the drive. Under those circumstance, she knew something was wrong with the hard disk drive and decide to engage with us. She mentioned that this faulty hard disk drive has important documents and photos which she does not have any backup at all.

Action (Solution):

After the registration of her case, we proceed to diagnose her hard drive. During the diagnosis, our recovery specialist confirmed the read/write heads of the hard drive were faulty and the clicking noise is caused by this faulty mechanical component. As a result, our recovery specialist opens the enclosure of the hard drive in the clean room to check the condition of the platter before recovery. Fortunate for her, the platters of her drive were not damaged by the faulty read/write head. Based on the condition of the hard drive, we estimated the success rate of recovery will be higher.
