WD RED NAS WD30EFRX-68EUZN0 ( Cannot Access Western Digital My Cloud)
Cannot Access Western Digital My Cloud- RED NAS WD30EFRX-68EUZN0
Case description:
A customer contacted us to diagnose a Western Digital My Cloud. It is a Western Digital 3.5” hard drive – WD RED NAS WD30EFRX-68EUZN0. It stopped working in the past 2 weeks. When connected the Western Digital My Cloud to his computer, the computer cannot recognize or access the hard drive. He tried different computers and laptops, but it was all the same, and attempt to access it again after a few weeks, but it is still inaccessible. There are some photos and videos on the Western Digital My Cloud that he would like to retrieve.
Action (Solution):
EHDR’s data recovery specialist proceeds to diagnose the hard drive. The hard drive is detectable by the recovery tool but cannot access normally. The health condition of the hard drive has dropped but there is no mechanical failure. The motor of the hard drive spins up successfully and the read/write heads of the drive are still working. Based on this scenario, the chances of getting the data back are higher as compared to other cases in which the mechanical component fails.
The Outcome
Data recovery was successful, and we transferred all the recovered data into a temporary drive for our client to verify. He checked the data and mention that all the data are recovered. At the end of the service, he needs a solution to back up his data safely. We introduce the NAS to him as it has a RAID structure which could help mirror the data automatically. He purchased a Synology NAS and all recovered data is transferred into the NAS for him.
Suggestion
When it comes to a storage device, no matter what type of drive you choose, there is always a chance of device failure. If you are using a NAS, do configure the alert system correctly. Feel free to contact our recovery specialist and seek advice.
